The Tide Pools

We had a fabulous visit to the Corona del Mar tide pools. There were SO many tide pool critters to be seen. The sun was shining, the temperature was warm…it couldn't be a more PERFECT day! This makes for a great narrative writing opportunity.

Sit down with your child and have him/her brainstorm with you all of the things he/she saw, heard, smelled, touched, etc. at the tide pools. You can actually make a Circle Map OR a Tree Map based on this information. Then, using the information, your child can go back and write several sentences about his/her experiences.

It may be necessary to stop and ask some questions like:

What did you see at the tide pools? What color was it?

What did you walk on? How did you have to walk?

Where did you find the ............? How did you recognize it?

Leading questions will often get your child to start to really think!
