Have you been 'practicing?'

August is here. That means school is going to begin in about four (4) weeks. Have you been 'practicing' as we say in our class? That is, have you read any books lately? Have you looked at the High Frequency Words? Have you written any sentences? Have you done any sort of mathematics?

Okay, perhaps you have been a bit on the lazy side. That's alright EXCEPT 1st grade is looming on the horizon! That means if you don't start working on some schoolwork NOW, then you will be in trouble when school begins. That's right. So, this is the time to get your booty in gear and begin a 30-minute homework period each day.

Homework? Yes, homework! 30-minutes a day is not much and will provide enough practice that will get you back into the swing of things. Spend some time with those HFW. Download the list again, in case you can't find the one that was given to you. Read a book. Try to decode (use your oral blending skills!) yourself. Write in your journal (at least TWO sentences, please). Add and subtract numbers or figure out what the time is or ask to count the coins in the ashtray in the car. Anything that gets you to work a little bit on 'schoolwork' is going to help out right now.

Get that brain working. You can do it! You SHOULD do it!
